The intercepted haul included 53 pistols, 65 rounds of live ammunition, 74 magazines, and a pistol holster, all cleverly concealed in three suitcases within a 40-foot container.

But here’s the shocking part – the container, numbered MEDU4496951, had been declared as containing harmless vehicles and personal items from the United States. Customs officers discovered the hidden arsenal during a routine examination on November 15, 2024, in the presence of the agent and importer’s representative.

Commissioner of Customs Brigadier Zibrim Ayorrogo revealed that the interception occurred on November 4, 2024. Upon uncovering the illicit cargo, the Customs team swiftly alerted the GRA’s Intelligence and Investigations Unit and the Preventive Unit to verify the discovery.

The suspects linked to the shipment have been detained and handed over to the Marine and Railway Police Station in Tema for further investigation. Authorities are now working tirelessly to unravel the details behind this brazen attempt to smuggle arms into the country.
