Speaking on July 21, Dr. Boamah emphasized the importance of distinguishing between criminal acts and traditional matters in order to address violence appropriately.

“We shall always separate crimes from traditional matters, enabling us to deal appropriately and legally with criminals who foment trouble in the name of chieftaincy conflict,” he declared, underlining the administration’s proactive approach to ensuring peace and security.

Acknowledging the ongoing instability in various regions, particularly Bawku and Alavanyo, the Minister reassured the public that the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) remains vigilant and fully engaged in monitoring these areas. “We acknowledge that the situation in Bawku and Alavanyo and their immediate surroundings remains volatile. The Ghana Armed Forces is actively monitoring and has put in place robust mechanisms to ensure any potential escalation is swiftly contained in the interest of the people and the long-lasting resolution of the conflict through dialogue,” he stated.

Dr. Boamah reiterated the government’s commitment to dialogue as the means to achieve lasting peace, while also making it clear that those who use tradition as a shield for violent actions will face legal consequences. His remarks come amid increasing tensions in the Bawku enclave, which have raised concerns about security in surrounding communities.

As the government seeks to navigate these challenges, the Defence Minister’s assurances reflect a determined effort to restore stability and foster harmony in these conflict-affected areas, ensuring that the rule of law prevails.
