Salam Mohammed Mustapha, National Youth Organizer of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), has attributed the District Road Improvement Program (DRIP) idea to Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia. Apexnewsgh reports
Addressing a press conference in the Upper East Region, Mustapha praised the government’s innovative thinking behind DRIP, noting that it addresses the resource constraints of District Assemblies in repairing roads.
Mustapha, who previously served as Director of Programmes at the Office of the Vice President ¹, emphasized that Dr. Bawumia chairs a cabinet sub-committee responsible for critical roles, including DRIP. The program equips districts with machinery to repair roads before contractors arrive, tackling the lack of resources and heavy equipment.
However, Mustapha’s tone turned critical as he lambasted opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) members for engaging in violent clashes during the DRIP handover to the Assembly. He condemned the focus on petty politics, saying, “If the machine has gone to the district and you are not fighting about the work the machine is coming to do, rather whose picture is there, then you are sick in the head.”
Mustapha’s statement highlights the NPP’s commitment to development and infrastructure growth, while urging unity and cooperation among political parties. As the 2024 elections approach, the NPP aims to showcase its achievements, including DRIP, to garner support from Ghanaians.
