Delegates comprising of Polling station executives, Electoral Area coordinators, constituency executives, Regional Executives, and MMDCEs came out in their numbers to vote for the candidates of their choice.

However, the election was free and fair across the 15 constituencies in the region.

Results declared by the Electoral Commission (EC) say Hon. Kennedy Agyapong 2111, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia 5,218, Dr. Afriyie Akoto 190 and Francis Addai Nimoh 95.

The declared result, without any doubt, sees Dr. Bawumia as the winner of the NPP 2023 Presidential primaries in the Upper East Region.

Out of the 15 constituencies in the Upper East Region, Dr. Bawumia won 13 and Kennedy Agyapong surprisingly managed only 2 with Binduri and Zibilla Constituency voting for him massively.

When ApexnewsGh contacted the Regional Secretary Elvis Atia Awonekei Figo after the declaration of the result, he extended a congratulatory message to all the candidates for their contribution towards a peaceful election.

Explaining the Zibilla and Binduri showdown against Dr. Bawumia, the regional Secretary blamed the loss on the ongoing conflict in the area.

However, he is very optimistic that despite Dr. Bawumia’s loss in those areas, the NPP will retain the Binduri and as well recapture Zebilla and another from the Bawku zone.
More to come
