The Electoral Commission (EC) is currently facing inquiries after registration kits were reported missing, leading to questions about the security of sensitive electoral materials. Apexnewsgh reports
Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, the Director of Elections and IT for the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), has raised several important questions regarding the missing kits and the overall handling of electoral materials.
Key inquiries include the status and location of the missing kits, details of when and where they were discovered missing, the quantity of missing kits, and the existence of documentation such as purchasing invoices and inventory records. Additionally, questions regarding the investigation, arrest, and prosecution of those responsible for the theft have been raised, as well as concerns about the possible compromise of voters’ data stored in the missing kits.
Preventative measures to avoid future incidents and the need for transparency and accountability in the handling of electoral materials have also been highlighted in the inquiries. The importance of proper storage protocols, custodial responsibility, and the retrieval of missing Biometric Verification Devices (BVDs) have been emphasized to ensure the integrity of Ghana’s electoral processes.
These inquiries underscore the need for a thorough investigation into the missing kits and the implementation of stronger security measures to prevent such incidents from reoccurring in the future.
The EC must address these concerns promptly to uphold the trust and confidence of the Ghanaian people in the electoral system.
