In a landmark victory for justice and human rights, the ECOWAS Court has ruled in favor of Shalimar Abbiusi, spokesperson for the New Force Movement, in a case against the Republic of Ghana. Apexnewsgh reports

The court found that Ghana violated Abbiusi’s fundamental rights by wrongfully arresting, rearresting, and illegally deporting her in December 2023.

Despite the State Prosecutor dropping all charges against her, Abbiusi was unlawfully detained and faced immediate illegal deportation. This, according to the New Force Movement, highlights a troubling pattern of abuse of power by government officials aimed at suppressing political dissent.

The ECOWAS Court’s decision mandated compensation from the Ghanaian government to Abbiusi, marking a significant victory for justice and accountability. Abbiusi’s counsel, Francis Xavier-Sosu, expressed gratitude to the court, saying he feels vindicated that the ECOWAS court has protected Abbiusi’s rights.

The New Force Movement reaffirmed its dedication to ensuring fairness and justice across African nations, urging the Ghanaian government to respect human rights and uphold the rule of law.

The movement also called on civil society organizations, human rights advocates, and the international community to condemn such violations and support efforts to reform governmental institutions.
