The New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Ejisu is currently in the process of engaging potential candidates who have expressed interest in contesting in the upcoming parliamentary primary. Apexnewsgh reports
This proactive move is aimed at promoting unity within the party by encouraging some candidates to withdraw their candidacy.
The decision to engage potential candidates comes after the constituency chairman, Kofi Ampofo Agyapong, initially declared his intention to contest but later retracted his decision. This move aligns with the party’s efforts to streamline the nomination process and ensure a cohesive approach to selecting a candidate.
The Ashanti regional chairman of the NPP, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as ‘Wontumi’, has supported this action, emphasizing that it is in the best interest of the party. Wontumi explained, “Big party like NPP, there are a lot of people who want to serve. When our precious MP [John Kumah] joined ancestors, a lot of people in this constituency thought that it will be appropriate for them to also step in.”
Seven aspirants wasted no time in seizing the opportunity on the opening day of nominations and successfully obtained their forms for the upcoming primary. The party is currently searching for a candidate to replace the late MP Dr. John Kumah who passed away on 7 March 2024.
Supporters have been showing their unwavering support for their preferred aspirants as they purchased nomination forms from the election committee chaired by Danquah Smith Buttey, the national first vice chairman of the party. Aspirants like Kwasi Nyantakyi, lawyer Kwabena Boateng, and Helena Mensah have all picked nomination forms, alongside others who are equally confident of being placed on the ballot.
The national first vice-chair of the NPP, Danquah Smith Buttey, also explained the modalities of the exercise, emphasizing the need for a replacement for the late MP in Parliament. Nominations are set to close on Thursday, giving all interested candidates an opportunity to participate in the selection process.
