Election Tribunal: Peter Obi strategic, absent himself from court

Labour Party Presidential candidate, Peter Obi, was noticeably absent at the tribunal sitting for the just concluded presidential elections, according to Apexnewsgh.com observation .

During the tribunal session at 9:36 am, when the Chairman of the Tribunal, Justice Haruna Tsammani, asked for the introduction of petitioners and responders, the LP Chairman, Julius Abure, stated that he was representing petitioner Peter Obi.

Vice-President Kashim Shettima introduced himself as the first responder, along with the Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Abdullahi Ganduje.

The judgment for Wednesday’s proceedings will be delivered by Chairman Justice Haruna Tsammani, with assistance from other panel members: Justices Stephen Adah, Monsurat Bolaji-Yusuf, Moses Ugo, and Abba Mohammed.

Three petitions, identified as CA/PEPC/03/2023, CA/PEPC/05/2023, and CA/PEPC/04/2023, have been filed before the court. These petitions were lodged by Mr. Peter Obi, candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, former Vice President and candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) respectively.

The Presidential election held on February 25, 2023, saw the ruling All Progressives Congress candidate, Tinubu, declared the winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). Tinubu secured a total of 8,794,726 votes, defeating his main contenders. Atiku of the PDP came second with 6,984,520 votes, while Obi of the LP placed third with 6,101,533 votes.

Both Atiku and Obi were dissatisfied with the election declaration result by the INEC, hence decided to seek redress in court.
