The Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana has uncovered a case of fraudulent Ghana Card numbers being used during voter registration at the Pusiga District Registration Centre on May 13, 2024. Apexnewsgh reports
According to a statement released by the EC on Monday, May 20, 2024, 17 individuals were found to have registered using counterfeit Ghana Card numbers.
The implicated Registration Officer, who failed to physically verify the cards and accepted fake numbers from party agents, has been dismissed and arrested following a report to the police. The statement confirmed the officer’s complicity in the fraudulent activity.
The 17 applicants were later registered using the guarantor system, and the police have granted the registration officer bail as investigations continue.
The EC’s statement revealed that upon investigation, it was discovered that the Ghana Card numbers were fake, and the registration officer was complicit in the fraud. The officer accepted the fake numbers from party agents who accompanied the 17 applicants, rather than physically inspecting their Ghana cards.
This incident highlights the EC’s commitment to ensuring the integrity of the voter registration process and its willingness to take swift action against any fraudulent activity.
