Mahama Ayariga, the Member of Parliament for Bawku Central, has criticized the Proposed Restrictions on Importation of Selected Strategic Products as it contradicts Ghana’s commitments under the IMF Bailout Agreement.
According to Ayariga, the Export and Import Regulations, 2023, violate the provisions stated in the international agreement and show a disregard for the stipulations outlined in the IMF Country Report No. 23/168 issued in May 2023.
Ayariga also questioned the level of communication between the Ministry of Trade and Industry and the Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning, suggesting a lack of coordination within the government.
He further claimed that the NPP Government is confused about the country’s economic direction and financial management, and unable to uphold its commitments to the IMF.
