In a keynote address at the Democrat Union of Africa (DUA) Forum 2024 in Accra, Tony Peter Clement, former Canadian Minister of Industry and President of the Treasury Board, praised Ghana’s ambitious digitalization agenda as a shining example for developing nations to follow. Apexnewsgh reports

Clement highlighted Ghana’s success in leveraging the digital revolution to promote accountability and transparency across various sectors of the economy.

He cited the Mobile Money Interoperability system and biometric national identification systems as exemplary initiatives that have bolstered Ghana’s economic growth. Clement emphasized the need for developing nations to bridge the rural-urban digital divide, enhance cybersecurity, and foster effective public-private partnerships to accelerate digital transformation.

The Mobile Money Interoperability system, launched in May 2018 by Vice President Alhaji Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has revolutionized financial inclusion and cashless transactions in Ghana.

This innovative system enables seamless mobile money transactions across different networks, eliminating complexities and inconveniences associated with inter-network transfers.

Clement’s endorsement of Ghana’s digitalization agenda serves as a testament to the country’s pioneering efforts in harnessing technology to drive economic growth and development.

As the world becomes increasingly digital, Ghana’s model offers valuable lessons for developing nations seeking to leverage technology for sustainable development.
