Former Finance Minister Dr. Amin Adam Challenges President Mahama’s Economic Claims

Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam, former Finance Minister, has raised eyebrows with his recent Facebook post, questioning President John Dramani Mahama’s assertions about the state of the economy. Apexnewsgh reports

At the center of the controversy is the President’s claim that the previous administration’s mismanagement of the economy has led to a fiscal crisis, limiting public sector wage increases.

Dr. Adam challenged this narrative, pointing out that the economy, despite being labeled as “criminally mishandled,” was able to support significant pay increases for public sector workers throughout 2023 and 2024. He asked, “How could an economy described as ‘criminally mishandled’ afford a 30% base pay increase in 2023, followed by 23% from January to June 2024, and 25% from July to December 2024, all while maintaining respectable fiscal deficits?”

Dr. Adam further pressed the President to explain what has changed between December 2024 and February 2025 that suddenly put the economy in crisis, making it unable to afford an adjustment in the base pay above 10%. This comes after President Mahama condemned the former government’s management of the economy during a National Tripartite Committee meeting.

It’s worth noting that Dr. Adam had previously expressed confidence in the economy, stating that the New Patriotic Party government was leaving behind a strong economy, with significant recovery and resilience despite global and domestic challenges.
