The New Patriotic Party (NPP), Appiah-Kubi Baidoo, who once proudly represented the party as the Parliamentary Candidate for the Sefwi Akontombra Constituency, has decided to step down. His resignation stems from years of what he describes as maltreatment and neglect by the party he once served.
In a heartfelt letter addressed to the Chairman of the NPP Constituency, Baidoo expressed his profound disappointment over the treatment he and his family have endured. His history with the NPP is notable; having served as the District Chief Executive for Akontombra under former President John Agyekum Kuffour, Baidoo has contested as the party’s Parliamentary Candidate three times. Despite this dedication, he found his pleas for assistance falling on deaf ears, leading to his ultimate decision to resign.
“This decision has been arrived at following years of maltreatment meted out to me and my immediate family by the party,” Baidoo wrote. His resignation raises concerns about the potential impact on the NPP’s standing in the Western North Region, especially with the upcoming 2028 elections.
Baidoo did not leave without expressing gratitude for the opportunities the party provided him over the years. He took a moment to apologize to his loyal supporters and sympathizers, recognizing the impact his departure might have on them. “I unreservedly apologize to the thousands of supporters and sympathisers who have been with me through thick and thin over the last two decades,” he stated.
With his resignation now official, Baidoo wished the NPP success in its future endeavors, indicating that, while he may no longer be a part of the party, he still hopes for its prosperity.
