Former National Chairman of the People’s National Convention (PNC), Bernard Monnah, has officially announced his bid for the presidency in the upcoming December 7, 2024, general elections.

Making the declaration during an interview on Pan-African TV, Monnah discussed the state of the PNC and highlighted the party’s ongoing transformation.

Monnah expressed his optimism that the PNC would improve after completing its internal preparations for the upcoming elections. He called for a new political era and urged both the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to step aside and make way for a fresh perspective in the governance of the country.

One of the key reasons behind Monnah’s decision to enter the presidential race is the growing despair among the youth. He highlighted the fact that many young people have lost hope in the two major political parties, resulting in a significant number leaving the country whenever the opportunity arises. Monnah aims to offer a lifeline to the disillusioned youth through his candidacy.

Monnah also criticized the established parties for failing the youth and emphasized the need for a new approach to revive Ghana. He specifically mentioned the country’s dealings with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) as an area that needs a fresh perspective.

Civil rights activist Bernard Monnah will face competition from other aspirants, including Samson Asaki Awingobit, the Executive Secretary of the Importers and Exporters Association of Ghana, who has also declared his intention to vie for the PNC flagbearer position.
