Franklin Cudjoe, a prominent executive at policy think tank IMANI Ghana, has expressed strong disapproval of Bernard Ahiafor’s chairmanship of Parliament’s Appointments Committee. Apexnewsgh reports
Cudjoe’s criticism comes as the vetting of ministerial appointees continues, with Ahiafor’s conservative style of questioning and chairing being called into question.
In a scathing Facebook post on Wednesday, February 26, 2025, Cudjoe praised Alexander Afenyo-Markin’s posture, but argued that a more animated chair, such as Cape Coast South MP Kweku George Ricketts-Hagan, would be more effective. “Be honest, guys. But for Afenyo-Markin, this whole vetting would have been boring, and we never would have known so much about the nominees,” Cudjoe wrote, appealing for Ricketts-Hagan’s return.
Cudjoe’s earlier post was equally critical of Ahiafor, describing him as “uninspiring, unprepared, boring, and capriciously jaundiced and political.” In contrast, Ricketts-Hagan was praised for his understanding of the issues, his ability to clarify questions, and his leadership during the vetting process.
Ricketts-Hagan, the Deputy Appointments Committee Chair, had led the vetting process when it resumed on Monday, February 24, 2025. However, Ahiafor resumed his post on Wednesday, February 26, sparking Cudjoe’s criticism.
The controversy surrounding Ahiafor’s chairmanship has raised concerns about the effectiveness of the Appointments Committee and its ability to hold ministerial appointees accountable.
