In a meeting that marked a significant moment in Ghana’s democratic journey, the Commission delivered soft copies of the Certified Voters Register to all registered political parties and independent presidential candidates. Apexnewsgh reports
This action was in adherence to Sub-Regulation 4 of Regulation 27 of Constitutional Instrument (C.I.) 91, reaffirming the Commission’s commitment to a fair electoral process.
The soft copies, conveniently presented on external hard drives, were packed with essential lists. These included the Valid Voters Register, Exceptions List, Multiples List, Transferred Voters List, Absent Voters List, Manual Verification List, Proxy Voters List, and Special Voters List. Each of these documents plays a vital role in ensuring that every vote counts and that the electoral process is transparent.
During the meeting, representatives from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) expressed interest in receiving a summary of these lists. While the Electoral Commission was not legally obligated to provide these details, they chose to honor the request, showcasing their commitment to responsiveness and open dialogue.
To facilitate this, the Commission prepared summaries on a regional basis, which they promised to send to the parties shortly after.
It’s noteworthy that since its inception in 1992, the Electoral Commission has maintained a practice of sharing only soft copies of the Certified Voters Register, without providing a breakdown of the statistics.
This approach, however, did not discourage the Commission from assuring stakeholders of the robustness and credibility of the Certified Voters Register. They appealed to the public for support in their mission to deliver free, fair, transparent, and credible elections scheduled for December 2024.
As the Electoral Commission of Ghana continues to cement its role in ensuring the integrity of the electoral process, they remain steadfast in their commitment to transparency and accountability.
Their website serves as a valuable resource, offering essential information on voter registration, the exhibition of voters’ registers, and results from past elections, thus inviting all citizens to actively engage in the democratic process.
