The grand launch is set to take place on April 22, 2025, at the Accra International Conference Centre, where President John Dramani Mahama will kick-start the Golden Jubilee activities.

The event will feature the unveiling of the official ECOWAS 50th anniversary logo and the declaration of the theme for the year-long celebration. Ghana will also host an extraordinary meeting of the ECOWAS Council of Ministers from April 22 to 23, 2025, bringing together foreign ministers and key stakeholders to discuss critical issues shaping the bloc’s future.

Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, emphasized Ghana’s commitment to regional unity, stating that the country’s selection as host is a testament to its longstanding contributions to ECOWAS. Ghana has been an active member of ECOWAS since its inception in 1975, contributing troops to peacekeeping missions, providing chairmen for the organization, and participating in joint projects with other member states.

The 50th anniversary marks a pivotal moment for ECOWAS, offering an opportunity to reflect on its achievements, address existing challenges, and renew commitment to peace, economic integration, and development across West Africa.

As a founding member of ECOWAS, Ghana has played a significant role in shaping the organization’s goals and objectives, which aim to promote economic cooperation, raise living standards, and foster relations among member states.
