The Ghana Police Service (GPS) has swiftly debunked reports circulating in the media that Oliver Barker-Vormawor was beaten by police officers, labeling them “false and baseless.” Apexnewsgh reports
According to the GPS, this is merely another attempt by Barker-Vormawor and his associates to garner public sympathy.
In a statement released on social media on Sunday, October 20, 2024, the police clarified that Barker-Vormawor was granted bail by the High Court on Wednesday, October 16, 2024, in the sum of GHS20,000, with two sureties. However, despite multiple attempts by the police, the bail execution remained unsuccessful due to Barker-Vormawor’s inability to provide the required sureties.
The police also revealed that on October 19, 2024, they received intelligence suggesting Barker-Vormawor was planning to compromise the security of fellow inmates and the police station. Consequently, the police decided to transfer him to another cell, but he resisted, even after persuasion. During the attempt to handcuff him, Barker-Vormawor sustained minor scratches on his right hand. He was subsequently taken to the hospital, treated, and discharged.
The GPS’s statement aims to set the record straight and prevent misinformation from spreading. It emphasizes that the police are committed to maintaining law and order while ensuring the safety and well-being of all individuals involved.
