Speaking at the opening of the National Economic Dialogue on Monday, March 3, 2025, Dr. Yamson lamented the rise of “Generation Hustlers” – young people who have lost hope in Ghana’s leadership and are eager to leave the country.

Dr. Yamson attributed Ghana’s economic woes to poor governance and corruption, which have created a sense of disillusionment among the youth. “We have succeeded in creating a new generation of young people called Generation Hustlers, who have lost hope, respect, and confidence in their political leaders and their country,” he stated.

While acknowledging the impact of external shocks, Dr. Yamson emphasized that Ghana’s problems are primarily homegrown. He endorsed President John Dramani Mahama as the leader best suited to steer the country toward sustainable economic growth, urging him to take bold action against corruption and economic mismanagement.

The two-day National Economic Dialogue brings together stakeholders from government, business, and civil society to discuss policies that will drive Ghana’s economic recovery. The event is themed “Resetting Ghana: Building the Economy We Want Together” and aims to foster inclusive discussions on economic policies and reforms.

Key areas of focus include:

Achieving Sustainable Macroeconomic Stability
Promoting Economic Transformation
Advancing Infrastructure Development
Implementing Structural Reforms
Ensuring Private Sector-Led Growth
Restoring Good Governance and Combating Corruption

As Ghana navigates its economic challenges, the National Economic Dialogue serves as a crucial step toward finding solutions and restoring hope for the future.
