The arrival of the first train, which will operate on both regional and long-distance lines for Ghana Railways, marks a significant step towards improving transportation infrastructure in the country.

Deputy Information Minister Fatimatu Abubakar shared pictures of the newly acquired train on her social media account, confirming its procurement by the government. According to the chief executive officer of the Ghana Railway Development Authority, Yaw Owusu, the second train is expected to be shipped in May and will arrive in August.

To ensure the efficiency and safety of the modern trains, they will undergo testing on the new 100km Tema to Mpakadan railway line before being officially commissioned. President Akufo-Addo is set to preside over the commissioning ceremony, which is scheduled for June of this year. This initiative is part of the government’s efforts to revamp railway transportation in Ghana and provide better connectivity and accessibility for the citizens.
