The government has released GH¢139.25 million for disbursement as cash grants to vulnerable households under the Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP) Programme. Apexnewsgh reports
The move is part of the government’s efforts to strengthen social protection and improve the livelihoods of Ghana’s most vulnerable populations.
The cash allowance for LEAP beneficiaries has been increased by 25%, with the amount varying based on household size. For instance, a one-member household now receives GH¢320.00, up from GH¢256.00, while a four-member household receives GH¢530.00, up from GH¢424.00. The increased funding is aimed at providing meaningful support to beneficiary households and helping them improve their living standards.
The government has also significantly boosted the LEAP Programme’s budgetary allocation for 2025, committing GH¢953.5 million compared to GH¢728.8 million in 2024. This increase demonstrates the government’s commitment to supporting the most vulnerable members of society and reducing poverty in the country.
The LEAP Programme, which provides bi-monthly cash support, is a central pillar in Ghana’s broader poverty reduction strategy. The number of beneficiary households is set to grow from 350,000 to 400,000, following an ongoing reassessment exercise to identify and include additional eligible families. The government is working to ensure that the most vulnerable households receive the support they need to improve their livelihoods and break the cycle of poverty.
The release of funds for the LEAP Programme is a testament to the government’s commitment to social protection and poverty reduction. The programme has been instrumental in providing support to vulnerable households and helping them improve their living standards.
With the increased funding and expanded beneficiary base, the LEAP Programme is poised to make an even greater impact in the lives of Ghana’s most vulnerable populations.
