GRA Commissioner Issues Warning to Corrupt Officials

Brigadier-General Glover Ashong Annan, the Commissioner of the Customs Division at the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), has sent a clear message to errant officials within the service.

During a recent working visit to the Tema Port, General Annan emphasized that his administration will not tolerate any actions that undermine the country’s revenue collection efforts.

At a staff durbar held within the Long Room, General Annan reaffirmed that revenue mobilization is a top priority for the Customs Division, asserting that the integrity of the system is paramount to national development. He called upon officers to uphold the highest standards of discipline and professionalism, making it clear that anyone found engaging in corrupt practices would face serious consequences.

“We will not allow a few bad actors to derail the hard work of the many dedicated officers who serve with integrity,” he declared with conviction, reinforcing the commitment to maintain a corruption-free environment.

Acknowledging the significant strides made by the Customs Division in recent years, General Annan pointed out that there remains ample opportunity for further enhancement. He stressed the importance of innovation and continuous improvement in operational procedures to boost efficiency and transparency within the division.

As part of his visit, he toured several key operational areas, including the Meridian Port Services and the Examination Bay. During this tour, General Annan outlined various reforms currently being implemented to strengthen the division’s capacity. He highlighted the incorporation of cutting-edge technologies, such as Artificial Intelligence and the Advanced Cargo Manifest system, along with other digital tools designed to tackle systemic challenges.

These innovations, he explained, are crucial in positioning the Customs Division to support Ghana’s transition into a 24-hour economy, thereby facilitating trade and strengthening revenue collection mechanisms.

In closing, General Annan assured stakeholders that under his leadership, the Customs Division remains firmly committed to excellence, accountability, and the protection of national revenue.

His resolute stance on corruption and dedication to reform signal a new chapter for the Customs Division, as it aims to uphold the integrity essential for the nation’s growth and development.
