A group of disgruntled grassroots members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has made their voices heard, calling for the immediate withdrawal of Mr. John Atter Matey’s nomination as the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Lower Manya Krobo. Apexnewsgh reports
Their outcry reflects deep dissatisfaction and a sense of betrayal that has captured the attention of party leadership and constituents alike.
At a tense press conference held at the NDC party office in Nuaso Newtown, Odonkor David Der and Francis Kwawukume stepped forward to articulate the grievances of their members. They condemned the nomination as not just a betrayal but a stark indication of the party’s growing disregard for loyalty, competence, and the unswerving dedication shown by local stalwarts over the years.
“This nomination is a direct affront to party stalwarts and grassroots members who have dedicated over three decades to the NDC,” stated their impassioned message. The members emphasized that it signals a troubling shift in the party’s values, suggesting that loyalty and humility no longer carry weight in appointments.
Their accusations against Mr. Matey were serious and multifaceted. Among the allegations were claims of financial misconduct, including failure to account for a GHC 50,000 donation from a parliamentary aspirant during the last primaries, alleged hoarding of fertilizers meant for local farmers, and a lack of transparency in handling party resources ahead of the 2024 general elections. Furthermore, they asserted that he manipulated the appointment process, favoring close family members and sidelining more experienced and loyal candidates who had applied for the same position.
“This act of political injustice not only breeds discontent but threatens the unity and stability of the NDC in Lower Manya Krobo,” the group warned, raising alarms about the potential consequences of ignoring their concerns. They stressed that continued neglect could lead to unrest within the constituency, a worry echoed by many who fear for the future of the NDC in the region.
As the members concluded their statement, they issued a heartfelt appeal to the President and the Office of the Chief of Staff, urging immediate intervention to rectify what they termed a “grave mistake.” Their message was clear: this struggle transcends personal grievances; it is fundamentally about justice, loyalty, competence, and safeguarding the future of the NDC in Lower Manya Krobo.
In an echoing note of urgency, they cautioned that if their demands go unheeded, the tranquility of the constituency could be at risk, leaving the local party landscape in a state of turmoil.
