Head of Basic Schools Ensure Safety as Teachers Strike Continues

The Conference of Heads of Basic Schools (COHBS) has announced its decision to comply with a directive from the Ghana Education Service (GES) to keep schools open despite an ongoing nationwide strike by three teacher unions.

The Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT), and the Coalition of Concerned Teachers (CCT-Gh) declared the strike effective Wednesday, March 20, citing delays in addressing their conditions of service.

In response to the strike, GES issued a statement instructing school heads to ensure the safety and well-being of all students during this period. COHBS has pledged to follow this directive to safeguard students across the country.

The General Secretary of COHBS, Adu Darko, emphasized the importance of ensuring the safety of students, even if teachers are not present in schools during the strike. He expressed his commitment to personally oversee the safety of students who may come to school during this period.

GES has assured that they are closely monitoring the situation and will provide further guidance as necessary.

The GES directive aims to ensure that schools remain open and students are kept safe amidst the ongoing industrial action by the teacher unions.
