In a fervent address to President John Mahama, Hon. Awineyesema Abiire, a lecturer at Bolgatanga Technical University (BTU), has called for the establishment of a dedicated committee to spearhead what he terms “Operation Block All Leakages” (OBAL). Apexnewsgh reports
His appeal underscores the crucial need for accountability and transparency within government operations.
Hon. Abiire argues that while initiatives like “Operation Recover All Leakages” aim to reclaim lost funds, they fall short if preventative measures are not put in place. He believes that OBAL should be introduced to safeguard recovered resources and ensure that those tasked with their management are both professional and independent.
The lecturer passionately emphasizes that without robust measures to block leakages, any funds that are recovered may slip away once again, ultimately rendering recovery efforts futile.
He is urging President Mahama to take decisive action by launching OBAL and appointing leaders in key roles—including the heads of the Ghana Revenue Authority, the Controller and Accountant General, and various anti-corruption agencies—who exhibit integrity and objectivity.
He believes with this initiative, Hon. Abiire envisions a more accountable government that can truly protect its financial resources and foster trust among the citizens.
