The nominee for the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Bongo, Hon. Joseph Akasake Abaah, acknowledges his roles as one to serve and rule, he made the pronouncement after he received an overwhelming endorsement from members of the district assembly during a session held on Tuesday.

The assembly convened on Tuesday, April 15 to elect a Presiding member and confirm the DCE nominee. But it took the intervention of the over Lord of the Bongo district – Naba Salifu Alemyarum to see one of candidate for the PM position, Hon. Phelmond Ataba Atiah to concede to Hon. Nba Asampana to be declared winner and announced as the Presiding Member of district.
The standoff between these two candidates after none were able to garner the 2/3 majority votes of members of assembly, nearly derailed but delayed the process of the DCE confirmation.

During the session, assembly members took turns voting their support for Hon. Akasake, highlighting his track record of successful initiatives aimed at bridging gaps between local governments and the communities they serve. “Akasake has a unique ability to connect with people from all walks of life,” said Assemblyman Moses Ayinga . “His passion for community engagement is evident, and I have no doubt he will bring that same energy to the DCE.”
The assembly’s endorsement came after a thorough vetting process, both at the regional and national levels and strong competition from other two candidates. Many residents expressed their confidence in his ability to lead the district effectively, citing his previous as an Assemblyman and facilitating community dialogues.
In his acceptance speech, Hon Akasake expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support and emphasized his commitment to fostering a culture of collaboration and transparency within the DCE. “I am honored to receive this endorsement and am excited about the opportunity to work alongside all of you to strengthen our communities,” He said. “Together, we can create a more inclusive environment where every voice is heard and valued.” “I have come to serve and to rule”.
The assembly’s vote to endorse Akasake was nearly unanimous. The final tally was 53 yes in favor, 1 against, 1 rejected and 1 abstention, reflecting a strong bipartisan consensus on his nomination.
As the District prepares for a new chapter under Akasake’s leadership, many are hopeful that his appointment will lead to innovative programs and initiatives that empower communities and foster greater civic participation.
