Former President John Mahama has responded to requests for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to consider Eric Opoku, an MP from Asunafo South, as his running mate in the 2024 election.
Mr Mahama acknowledged the significance of the role but stated that the party has established procedures in place for selecting the most suitable candidate.
He reassured the public that the selection process would commence next year and advised patience while awaiting the decision from the Presidential candidate, National executives, and Council of Elders. During a recent visit to the Ahafo region, Mr. Mahama informed traditional leaders and their constituents that the running mate would be chosen by the presidential candidate, national executives, and council of elders.
He further stated that the selection process will begin next year and urged the public to pray for the timing of this decision.
“What I will say is that, just like custom has it, our party also has processes to select candidates for various roles”, Mr Mahama told traditional leaders and their people when he toured the Ahafo region recently.
“It is the presidential candidate, national executives, and council of elders who come together to select a running mate,” Mr. Mahama told party supporters.
