The Upper East Regional Minister, Dr. Hafiz Bin Salih, has expressed concern over the difficulties in acquiring land for government projects in the region. Apexnewsgh reports
According to him, the region’s land tenure system, which is largely owned by individuals and families, makes it challenging for the government to acquire land for development projects.
Dr. Bin Salih lamented that the situation is denying the region of much-needed development, as negotiations for compensation payments can take up to a year.
Despite these challenges, the Regional Coordinating Council (RCC) has collaborated with stakeholders to facilitate the construction of several projects, including Ultra-Modern SOCO Zonal Office (90% complete), Passport Office (60% complete), Labour Office (100% complete), Minerals Commission (at foundation stage), WFP/UN House (yet to commence)
The Minister’s comments highlight the need for a review of the region’s land tenure system to facilitate development and improve the lives of residents.
The Minister registered the pleasure during his maiden engagement with journalists in the region.
