The parliamentary committee has emphasized that they will not tolerate any actions that impede or obstruct their investigation into the leaked tape controversy involving the plans to remove Inspector General of Police, Dr George Akuffo-Dampare. They issued this warning after Bugri Naabu, the first witness, was unable to attend the committee’s first session due to health reasons.

Due to the absence of the first witness, the parliamentary committee investigating the leaked tape controversy involving the removal of Inspector General of Police, Dr George Akuffo-Dampare, had to adjourn the proceedings. The committee is scheduled to reconvene on Monday, August 28, 2023.

The committee’s Chairman, Mr. Samuel Atta-Akyea, highlighted the importance of adhering to the established schedule. He emphasized that witnesses should respect the committee’s timetable and make a commitment to appear when summoned. Mr. Atta-Akyea also stressed the significance of punctuality and collaboration, acknowledging the sacrifices made by committee members to ensure the smooth running of the proceedings.

“We expect all those summoned to appear before the committee to recognize the value of time,” he said.

The committee’s objective is to thoroughly investigate the leaked tape and ascertain its authenticity, as well as to determine the individuals involved and the motive behind the alleged plot. The committee will also examine the potential implications of the alleged plot on the country’s democracy and the credibility of the upcoming elections.

Mr. Atta-Akyea assured the public that the committee would exercise its authority within the confines of the law and respect the rights and privileges of all individuals involved. He urged the public to avoid speculation and allow the committee to complete its work diligently and objectively.

The committee’s findings and recommendations will be presented to the Speaker of Parliament and subsequently made public.
