Apexnewsgh reports

This appointment takes immediate effect, recognizing Dr. Thompson’s invaluable contributions to sustainable development and his instrumental role in shaping the SDGs during the President’s first term from 2013 to 2016.

In a letter dated February 12, 2025, President Mahama praised Dr. Thompson’s advisory expertise and expressed confidence in his ability to guide the nation towards achieving the SDGs.

This appointment is particularly significant, given the President’s co-chairmanship of the High-Level SDGs Advocates Group, a position conferred upon him by former UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon.

Dr. Thompson’s impressive track record in economic development and planning makes him an ideal candidate for this role. As the former Economic Advisor to the President and Director-General of the NDPC from 2013 to 2017, he played a pivotal role in organizing the National Economic Forum of 2014, which led to the adoption of the Senchi Consensus.

In addition to his new role, Dr. Thompson has been nominated to join the preparatory team for the upcoming National Economic Dialogue. Under his leadership, the NDPC will monitor the implementation of recommendations from the dialogue, ensuring that progress is reported to the President regularly.

This move demonstrates the government’s commitment to inclusive economic growth and sustainable development.
