Former President John Dramani Mahama has directed the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) to provide armed escort and protection for vehicles operating within the Bawku area.
This move aims to curb the ongoing security crisis in Bawku, where civilians have been targeted and killed in recent incidents.
Speaking during his ‘Thank You Tour’ of the North East Region on June 13, Mahama emphasized the need for enhanced military presence to ensure the safety of residents. He noted that peace is non-negotiable and that processes are ongoing to restore calm in the area.
As Commander-in-Chief, Mahama has instructed the Armed Forces to provide armed escort and protection to all vehicles traveling within the Bawku area and along the Walewale-Bolgatanga corridor. This directive is expected to provide relief to residents and traders in the area, who have been living in fear due to the security situation.
The move is part of efforts to restore peace and stability in the region. By deploying armed escorts, the Ghana Armed Forces aim to deter attacks and provide a sense of security to the local population.
The development is expected to have a positive impact on the lives of residents and traders in Bawku and surrounding areas.
