Former President John Mahama has pledged to promote gender equality if elected in the upcoming 2024 elections.

During a community engagement event in the Bolgatanga East District, he stated that if given the opportunity, 30% of his appointed positions would be occupied by women.

Mr. Mahama emphasized that his commitment to gender equality aligns with his vision for a more inclusive and diverse government. He believes that having women in decision-making roles is crucial for achieving gender balance and unleashing the untapped talent and capabilities of women.

The former president acknowledged the global agenda of promoting women’s representation in leadership positions and emphasized the importance of breaking barriers and empowering women to contribute to national development.

Addressing the socialist principles of his party, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr. Mahama highlighted the party’s strong focus on equality and social justice. He believes that increasing women’s representation in key positions would not only align with these principles but also result in a more inclusive and responsive government.

By making this commitment, Mr. Mahama aims to address the gender imbalance in leadership and create more opportunities for women to participate in governance and decision-making processes. He believes that empowering women in these roles will have a positive impact on the nation as a whole.
