Former President John Dramani Mahama has sounded a warning to President Nana Akufo-Addo regarding the planned $800 million gas processing contracts.

Mahama insists that the contract must first be presented to Parliament for scrutiny, citing concerns about its timing and potential long-term implications for the nation.

Mahama expressed his disapproval, stating, “At this late stage of your government, you should not be busy signing contracts that will bind this nation for many years.” He also warned those involved in the contract that they will be held responsible if the state suffers a financial loss.

This caution comes amidst Mahama’s campaign promises to prioritize accountability and transparency. He assured Ghanaians that under his presidency, acts that are not in the interest of the country will not be allowed to proceed.

Mahama’s concerns about the contract’s timing and potential implications are shared by some members of the ruling party, who have expressed disappointment with the government’s performance and corruption ². With Ghana’s economy already facing challenges, Mahama’s warning serves as a reminder of the need for prudent decision-making.
