Majority Caucus in Parliament has endorsed the Chief of Staff’s directive to withdraw all post-December 7 recruitments. Apexnewsgh reports
This move comes after Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin raised concerns about the legality of the directive on the floor of Parliament.
Afenyo-Markin criticized the decision, arguing that it doesn’t serve the best interests of the state. However, Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga defended the directive, emphasizing that the transition team had warned the outgoing administration against making last-minute recruitments to prevent undue financial strain on the new government, especially given the country’s distressed economy.
Ayariga revealed that some government agencies had seen an unjustified increase in staffing. He cited an example where an agency with 120 employees in 2016 had ballooned to over 1,000 workers, despite no expansion in assets or operations. This, he argued, is a clear indication of the need to streamline governance and manage the country’s fiscal challenges.
The Majority Caucus’s endorsement of the Chief of Staff’s directive is a significant development, as it shows that the ruling party is committed to addressing the country’s economic woes.
With this move, the government aims to prevent unnecessary financial burdens and ensure that the country’s resources are utilized efficiently.
