In a recent survey conducted by Global InfoAnalytics, a significant sentiment has emerged among Ghanaians regarding Chief Justice Gertrude Araba Esaaba Sackey Torkornoo. Apexnewsgh reports

Between April 7 and April 16, 2025, the poll, which gathered opinions from 2,545 voters across all 16 regions of Ghana, highlighted that 52% of respondents support her removal. In stark contrast, only 20% opposed the idea, while 18% remained neutral and 10% expressed no opinion.

Delving deeper into the data, the survey revealed a notable divide in opinions based on geographic regions. In the Greater Accra Region, a prominent 58% of participants endorsed the Chief Justice’s removal, with only 16% standing in opposition. Similarly, in the Central Region, there was a 51% backing for her removal, matched against 16% who opposed it. However, the Ahafo and Upper East Regions exhibited sentiments where support for removal did not constitute a majority view.

Education levels also played a significant role in shaping opinions. Among those with Junior High School education, a striking 57% expressed support for removal, while 17% stood opposed. At the Senior High School level, support dipped to 50%, with 21% against it. In the tertiary education bracket, 54% favored removal compared to 18% who did not, while individuals with no formal education had a more divided stance, reflecting 37% support against 30% opposition.

Political affiliations further influenced perspectives on the Chief Justice’s position. Among supporters of former President John Dramani Mahama, a staggering 79% agreed with the call for removal, whereas only 4% opposed it. Conversely, supporters of current Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia displayed more resistance, with just 17% advocating for her removal and 47% opposing it. Voters who backed other candidates showed mixed feelings, with 38% in support and 19% against, while 23% remained neutral.

The findings of this poll reveal the intricate landscape of public opinion surrounding the Chief Justice’s role, highlighting how regional, educational, and political contexts shape voter sentiment. Intriguingly, when participants who initially opposed, were neutral, or had no opinion were probed further regarding their stance towards removal if evidence of legal misconduct were to surface, 30% indicated they would indeed support it, underscoring the potential for shifting allegiances based on new information.

As discussions surrounding Chief Justice Torkornoo intensify, this survey serves as a pivotal reflection of Ghanaians’ views on leadership and accountability within the nation’s judicial system.
