Samuel Nartey George, the Minister nominee for Communications, Digitalisation, and Innovation, has unveiled plans to revamp the SIM re-registration exercise, promising a more efficient and technology-driven process. Apexnewsgh reports
This announcement came during his vetting by the Appointments Committee on Thursday, January 30.
George was critical of the previous approach, which was marred by long queues, stating that a more logical and seamless process would be implemented. He assured the Committee that the new process would leverage digital solutions to make the exercise convenient for citizens while achieving its intended purpose of improving national security and preventing fraud.
“We will do a proper SIM re-registration again, and this time, there will be no queues because common sense will prevail, and we will use technology to do it,” George said. He reiterated that the re-registration was in the best interest of Ghanaians, ensuring secure and reliable telecommunications services.
Under his leadership, the Ministry would prioritize efficiency and innovation in all digital initiatives, including SIM registration, to foster a more robust and inclusive telecommunications sector. This promise aligns with George’s commitment to harnessing technology to drive development and improve the lives of Ghanaians.
