In a decisive move to address a growing concern within Ghana’s energy sector, Minister of Energy John Abdulai Jinapor embarked on an inspection tour of the Tema Harbour. Apexnewsgh reports
With approximately 2,500 containers—filled with vital materials procured by the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) during the previous administration—still remaining uncleared at the port, the situation has reached a critical point.
These containers have incurred staggering demurrage charges, amounting to GHS 1.5 billion. This has raised serious alarm about potential resource mismanagement and a troubling lack of coordination between various government agencies. Mr. Jinapor did not mince words during his visit, branding the circumstances as “unacceptable.” He underscored the pressing need to clear the containers swiftly to avert further financial losses.
“It is imperative that we address this clear case of inefficiency immediately. We cannot afford to waste public resources while crucial energy projects are delayed,” Mr. Jinapor stated firmly.
The Minister’s visit reflects a commitment not just to resolve the current backlog but also to prevent similar issues in the future. He assured the public that immediate measures would be implemented to remedy the situation.
In his concluding remarks, Mr. Jinapor reaffirmed the Ministry’s dedication to upholding principles of efficiency, transparency, and prudent resource management, all essential to the development goals of Ghana’s energy sector. The Minister’s proactive approach aims to ensure that the nation’s energy projects proceed smoothly, ultimately benefiting all Ghanaians.
