Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has assured that his side of the house is fully committed to cooperating with the government as it forms its cabinet. Apexnewsgh reports
Speaking during the Appointments Committee sitting on Friday, January 31, Afenyo-Markin emphasized that they do not seek to obstruct government business.
Afenyo-Markin, a seasoned politician and legal expert, acknowledged that the vetting process has been fast-tracked for the first time since 1992, with nominees being considered outside of normal hours. As the leader of the minority side, he took full responsibility for ensuring a smooth process, recognizing that governance is continuous and should not be frustrated.
He also appealed to his colleagues on the other side to maintain peace in parliament, referencing the Speaker’s warning that following partisan lines would lead to chaos. This call for cooperation comes after chaos erupted during Thursday’s Appointments Committee sitting, where Minority and Majority members clashed over the timing of the vetting process.
Afenyo-Markin’s assurance of cooperation is a welcome development, as the country watches the cabinet formation process unfold.
