MP Alexander Akwasi Acquah Commends Late Minister of Defence’s Efforts for Armed Forces

Alexander Akwasi Acquah, the Member of Parliament for Akim Oda, shed light on the proactive measures taken by the late Minister of Defence, Dr. Omane Boamah, during his brief tenure in office.

Acquah revealed that within less than six months, the Minister had initiated steps to secure new aircraft for the Ghana Armed Forces.

During his remarks, Hon. Acquah expressed concern that the procurement process for new military aircraft could have progressed sooner if the current government, while in opposition, had supported the previous administration’s plans. He articulated his frustration over how political dynamics had stalled the efforts, stating, “Then again, politics is on the head in this discussion,” underscoring that national security issues should transcend partisan divisions.

Acquah praised Dr. Omane Boamah for his swift actions in addressing the logistical needs of the Ghana Armed Forces, highlighting that the Defence Ministry had begun making crucial arrangements for the acquisition of new aircraft before the unfortunate incident occurred. “He started to get some new [aircraft] in less than six months in office,” the MP emphasized, reflecting on the urgency of enhancing military capabilities.

The MP further stressed the critical importance of equipping the Ghana Armed Forces with modern aircraft to defend against external threats, arguing that military readiness must remain a national priority. He cautioned against politicizing defense matters, as any delays in vital procurements could lead to severe consequences for the nation’s security.

As discussions continue about the future of the Armed Forces, Acquah’s comments serve as a reminder of the need for unity and concerted action to ensure the safety and preparedness of Ghana’s military.
