Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the Vice President and Presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party, has recently visited Naba Asigri Abugrago Azoka II, the Overlord of the Bawku traditional area. He noted that his visit is more like a son visit to his father.

During his visit, Dr. Bawumia expressed his gratitude for being welcomed by the chief and members of his kingsmen over the years.

He mentioned that he had visited in various capacities, including as a candidate for the New Patriotic Party and as Vice President of Ghana. On this occasion, he was accompanied by government leaders, party members, parliamentary candidates, and government appointees. Dr. Bawumia also shared the good news that he had emerged as the flagbearer for the New Patriotic Party for the 2024 election and assumed the role of leader of the party.

“It is good to be back once again to your palace where am been welcomed by you on several occasions over the last decade or more my visit over the year have been visit of a son to a father. I have however come in different capacities over the years, I have come as a running for the New Patriotic Party, I also have come here as Vice President of the Republic of Ghana, today am here with the leadership of government and the party and our parliamentary candidates and appointees of government”.

“Zuguraan, today, I come to you with good news. As you are aware, I was a candidate for the flagbearer ship of the New Patriotic Party and the election took place on the 4th of November, by the grace of God almighty and thanks to your prayers, I emerged the flagbearer for the New Patriotic Party for 2024 election as well as the leader of the New Patriotic Party”.

“His Royal Majesty, this is a historic achievement. It is the first time as you have noted that our party has elected a son of the north to lead our party and am therefor to bring you the good news of this achievement”.

“So, your majesty am coming to you today not only as your son, also as Vice president, also as Vice President, also as the President candidate for the NPP and also as the leader for the NPP”.

“Your Majesty, the problem we faced as a people is poverty and underdevelopment. As President Isha Allah, I will contribute immensely to uplifting our people from poverty and underdevelopment. We cannot, however, be successful in our quest to eradicate poverty and bring development to our people in an atmosphere of conflict. We need peace for development, Ghana is a peaceful country, and it is the most peaceful country in West Africa and the second most peaceful country of Africa”.

“God willing as President, I will maintain Ghana status as a peaceful nation”.

“Your Majesty, as a son of the north, I am very pained by the conflict we have in Bawku between Kusasis and Mamprusis. This conflict has led to needless loss of lives, disrupted economic activity and development in Bawku. It is really sad. Fundamentally, we are really one people, we have intermarried over the years and our languages are very similar and I believe with every bone in my body that it is possible to have peace and harmony between Kusasis and Mamprusis in Bawku. And you have tasked me to make sure that happens and I will work towards that, we have to work towards it, it is possible”.

“The constitution has set out a very clear guideline for the resolution of chieftaincy disputes. This is through the house of chiefs and ultimately the Supreme Court. Fighting and killing each other can never resolve a chieftaincy dispute and I should also state that under the constitution of the Republic of Ghana, No government can impose a solution or use force to settle Chieftaincy disputes. As President by the grace of God, I shall uphold and defend the constitution of the Republic of Ghana”. Dr, Bawumia said this during his visit to Bawku Naba’s Palace.

However, the Vice President was accompanied with a powerful delegation from both party and government.
