Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) running mate for the 2024 election, has apologized for his recent comparison between Dr. Kwame Nkrumah and President Akufo-Addo. Apexnewsgh reports
NAPO, as he is popularly known, had sparked outrage after claiming that President Akufo-Addo’s achievements surpassed those of all previous presidents, including Ghana’s first president, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.
Speaking at a rally in Kumasi, NAPO had described President Akufo-Addo’s accomplishments as unprecedented, drawing criticism from many who accused him of intellectual dishonesty. However, in a statement, the former Education Minister clarified that his comments were not intended to disrespect any former president, including Dr. Nkrumah and his mentor, John Agyekum Kufuor.
“I apologize sincerely and regret any discomfort caused,” NAPO said, acknowledging the concerns raised by his statement. His apology comes as a gesture of goodwill, aiming to placate those who felt his comparison was inappropriate and disrespectful to Ghana’s political history.
