The Upper East Regional Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Donatus Akamugri, has dismissed the presidential ambitions of Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh (NAPO), the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) running mate, citing his controversial behavior and conduct. Apexnewsgh reports
The Regional Secretary spoke to Ngamegbulam Chidozie Stephen of Apexnewsgh on “SPEAKOUT UPPER EAST” on Thursday July 11.
According to Akamugri, NAPO’s comments during his unveiling ceremony in Kumasi, where he touted President Akufo-Addo’s development record as unparalleled in Ghana’s history, came as no surprise to the NDC. “We are all aware of his behavior and conduct. So, we think that NAPO is not a Presidential material. Because for you to be a presidential material, you must be a balanced figure,” Akamugri said.
NAPO’s remarks, which seemed to belittle Ghana’s first president, Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, and his development achievements, have sparked outrage among opposition supporters. The NDC secretary questioned Dr. Bawumia’s decision to choose NAPO as his running mate, given his history of insulting various groups, including diploma teachers and the people of Keta.
Akamugri emphasized that the presidency requires empathy, respect, and emotional intelligence, qualities he believes NAPO lacks. “Presidency is not for anybody who looks into people and insults them…if you have a character that can open his mouth and insult everybody, then it’s a big problem,” he stressed.
