Some polling station executives and members of the New Patriotic Party in the Navrongo constituency of the Upper East Region have said, all letters requesting the intervention of the Upper East regional chairman regarding issues in Navrongo fell on death ears. As they stressed NPP isn’t a dumping ground. Apexnewsgh.com report

According to the Concern Party Members of NPP in Navrongo Central, as a result of the attitude of some party members who openly campaigned against the party in the 2020 general election, the NPP party lost close to forty (40) seats in the 2020 general elections and not just the Navrongo seat alone.

“Some of these people even admitted during the open vetting sessions at the various polling stations that, they left the party for NDC, PPP etc but returned after the elections”.

“The NPP is not a dumping ground and so if anyone left the party and has decided to return to the party, you are welcome, but you have to show commitment to the party before you can be entrusted with an executive position as stated by the general secretary of the party”. Concern Party Members stressed.

CONCERN PARTY MEMBERS OF NPP NAVRONGO CENTRAL POLLING STATION ELECTIONS IN NAVRONGO AND MATTERS ARISING SETTING OF A COMMITTEE; there were series of letters requesting the intervention of the regional chairman regarding issues in Navrongo but all fell on death ears.

If one may ask, what is so special about the current petitions from the very people who openly campaigned against the party in the 2020 general elections? Some of these people even admitted during the open vetting sessions at the various polling stations that, they left the party for NDC, PPP etc but returned after the elections.

The NPP is not a dumping ground and so if anyone left the party and has decided to return to the party, you are welcome, but you have to show commitment to the party before you can be entrusted with an executive position as stated by the general secretary of the party. Now to matters in the said electoral areas with issues;

WUSUNGU; the elections committee visited the electoral area on three different occasions and in all that, they people refused for the elections to be conducted because of misunderstanding between them.

One group insisted the party’s members register be used while the other group insisted that anyone from wusungu, whether NPP, NDC, PNC whatever be allowed to vote. The latter is highly unthinkable if not sacrilegious but these among others were the reasons that truncated the process in that particular polling station.

VUNANIA; Out of the seven polling stations in the electoral area, only two polling stations had issues and of these two (10 positions), only three positions had issues. How then will you keep thirty-two (32) elected officers aside because of three outstanding issues?

BALOBIA; Each time a meeting was called, only people who picked forms to contest for various positions showed up.

Eventually, the election committee came and vetted and applicants who openly campaigned against the party and admitted not being active because their preferred candidate did not win primaries were disqualified.

In fact, there were applicants who jubilated and celebrated the NDC’s victory and there is audio and video evidence to support this. There were some positions too that had only one applicant who worked for the party and qualified from the vetting process.

It is therefore incongruous if any party member in good standing will have the moral right to speak ill against the process that led to the election of such officers.

NOGSENIA; the rules leading to disqualification or others are clearly spelt out at the reverse of the nomination form. These were the rules used here.

Some applicants admitted that, they did not fill any form, did not sign, did not know the polling station they were contesting, did not know the position being sorted for inter alia. In fact some said they were only called by people to bring passport sized photos but as to what for is still a mirage to them.

This means impersonation and other criminal offences were committed. One cannot build a strong party with emotions, hatred and personal vendetta. The applicants who had their forms filled wrongly with nicknames as seconders cannot be serious and trusted to do a good job for the party.

Ladies and gentlemen, it is sad to note that, people who were made zone campaign team chairpersons flatly refused to show up when called. This persona non-grata retorted that he needs no disturbance.

Such characters are those who are on roof-tops crying foul that they deserve to be executives. What is the guarantee that, such “generals” will not abandon the party again if their preferred candidate does not make it in an internal contest?

ATOSALI/AZAASI; Ladies and gentlemen of the press, it is sad if a party in good standing will join PPP to campaign against the party and the only reason from her was that she did not get the limited MASLOC sewing machines. She openly admitted this before a gathering of over 70people.

Why would such a character that did this be made a polling station executive? Another applicant claimed to be an active member did not even know the gender of her parliamentary candidate. She also admitted to have left the party but was back to stay.

One too, who was an executive member campaigned for what is popularly known as “Skirt and Blouse” and people within the community testified that he did campaign against the party, was still without remorse insisting to be elected as an officer again. Cry! Beloved NPP of Navrongo central.

KORANIA/BONIA; ladies and gentlemen of the press, on three different occasions, the election committee went there to conduct elections. In the first attempt, the applicants who insisted the election committee comes, said they were not ready and that a different day be set.

On the second attempt, they insisted that ballot papers with candidates contesting various positions pictures was the only thing they will accept for the elections to be held. No amount of explanation would they listen to. And on the third attempt they scheduled the committee; they still will not allow the elections to come off. Eventually, some talk engagement took place and disqualifications made.

And those positions with one applicant were used. Ladies and gentlemen, there are pictures, audio recordings and videos to buttress all these unpatriotic, ungodly and destructive acts. In fact they are saboteurs who are not remorseful but rather emboldened.

From a careful observation, the political interference in Navrongo central constituency is unimaginable by the political entrepreneurs who contribute nothing but destruction in the constituency. Actually some don’t even vote in the constituency, let alone to contribute a penny in the running of party affairs. Those elements are those who know more than the really do.

Losing the seat shouldn’t be an invitation of political vultures to land in the constituency only to feast on the carcass but as soon as the carcasses are gone, the go with the wind.

It is worth noting that, the NPP lost close to forty (40) seats in the 2020 general elections and not just the Navrongo seat alone. All party members in good standing should direct their energy to putting the bits and pieces together and not destructive stance.

The political saboteurs and their collaborators seems to have energy for destruction than for building, which is a political sacrilege and anybody who seems to give such characters the least of oxygen to breath is worse than the characters themselves as succinctly captured by Desmond Tutu “If you are neutral in situations of injustices, you have chosen the oppressor” and choosing to aid them is even worse.

We the concern members of the NPP Navrongo central are resolute and poised to see the party as supreme and will not bow to pressures within and outside and as stated by Patrice Lumumba of Congo, “In the pursuit of justice, ill feeling and fear has become alien to my life for there is neither brutality nor cruelty and not even torture that can bring me to ask for mercy for I prefer to die with my head unbowed, my faith unshaken and disregarding secret principles”.

It is in the light of this we ask for the truth and to stand for the truth. Our dear regional executives, you can make or unmake the Navrongo central constituency through your actions and inactions.

You must act properly and the patriots await you. Long Live Ghana! Long Live NPP! Long Live Navrongo!
