NDC Constituency Chairman Slams “Secret” Appointments

The Constituency Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Amenfi East, Nana Kofi Atokyi, has expressed outrage over alleged secret and unjust appointments made in the constituency without consulting key party executives. Apexnewsgh reports

In a strongly worded statement, Mr. Atokyi condemned the appointments of a Municipal representative to the Regional Lands Commission Board and the Municipal Director for the Youth Employment Agency (YEA), citing a blatant disregard for party structures and protocols.

The controversy centers around two appointments: McLean as the Amenfi East representative on the Regional Lands Commission Board and Alidu Dramani as Municipal Director of YEA. Mr. Atokyi revealed that neither appointment was made in consultation with the core nine constituency executives, including himself and other key officials. The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Raymond Nana Ebbah, reportedly claimed the nominations were his personal prerogative, while the Regional Minister disagreed, stating that such appointments should involve party leadership.

The situation has sparked tensions among youth groups, who have expressed anger over the “malicious appointments” and threatened to demonstrate. Mr. Atokyi also alleged that affiliates of the MCE have been insulting and threatening constituency executives on social media. The strained relationship between the MCE and party executives has worsened, with the MCE allegedly insulting the Women’s Organizer of the party.

Mr. Atokyi has called on the Regional Minister, Regional and National Executives of the NDC, and the President to intervene and restore order in the Amenfi East Constituency. Despite potential backlash, he emphasized that his actions were motivated by a desire to uphold party protocols and protect the interests of the NDC.

The situation remains volatile, with the future of the constituency’s leadership hanging in the balance.
