Baah Akyemfuor, Deputy Regional Secretary for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Ashanti Region, has expressed strong concerns over teachers allegedly gathering students for political rallies, describing it as an unlawful act. Apexnewsgh reports
He has announced plans to petition the Ghana Education Service (GES) and the Parliamentary Select Committee on Education on Monday, June 17, to investigate the matter and hold accountable all teachers involved.
Akyemfuor accuses the NPP’s Flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, of involvement in this controversial issue and urges immediate action to prevent its recurrence.
He emphasizes the gravity of the situation and calls upon parents, parent associations, Chiefs, traditional leaders, and opinion leaders to join hands in addressing this issue, safeguarding Ghanaian students’ educational environment.
The NDC has accused Dr. Bawumia of belittling Ghana’s education system during his recent tour of the Ashanti region, busing students from various Senior High Schools to the NPP’s youth connect program at the Jubilee Park. The party describes this act as a violation of the laws of Ghana, which do not allow partisan politics in senior high schools.
The NDC also accuses the Minister of Education, Dr. Osei Yaw Adutwum, of exposing SHS students to a dangerous political adventure during school hours. Akyemfuor’s petition seeks to hold teachers accountable for their involvement in political rallies and ensure that the educational environment remains protected from partisan politics.
