Miss Phillis Naa Koryoo Okunor, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentary Candidate for Awutu Senya East Constituency, has made a shocking revelation that she acquired a firearm for self-protection against the incumbent Member of Parliament, Hawa Koomson.
Okunor alleged that Koomson threatened her on four separate occasions during the 2020 elections, but the police failed to take action, leaving her feeling vulnerable.
In an interview on Citi FM’s Eyewitness News monitored by Apexnewsgh, Okunor stated, “I acquired a firearm to protect myself against Hawa Koomson because the police failed to provide any form of protection for me.” She recalled the incidents, saying, “Hawa Koomson pulled a gun on me on four different occasions during the 2019-2020 elections. No arrest was made, no investigations, nothing. The case just died.”
Okunor also addressed recent reports of her arrest, denying being detained following an incident in Kasoa on Sunday. However, the Ghana Police Service confirmed arresting three individuals, including Okunor, for unlawful possession of a firearm on June 2, 2024.
The incident highlights the ongoing tensions between political opponents in Ghana and raises concerns about the prevalence of firearms in the country.
Miss Okunor’s admission underscores the need for improved security measures and effective law enforcement to ensure public safety.
