NDC Primaries: Pusiga Constituency and what the outcome is likely to be after counting of ballot

Apexnewsgh

Pusiga Constituency in the Upper East Regional is among the constituencies where NDC will be conducting primaries for candidates aspiring to lead the parliamentary front in the area in 2024. The primaries this time, are combined together with the selection of the party flagbearership position.

Meanwhile, unlike, the past internal party elections in Pusiga, the 2023 edition appeared to be a different one because it has exposed a lot of lapses within the party leadership in the area.

In Pusiga, Four candidates are battling for the parliamentary position in the area.

Patrick George Ayande:

He is a lecturer at the University of Cape Coast, he is a known party activist. He contested as an Assemblyman 4 years ago and lost. In the 2020 election, he supported the incumbent Hajia Laadi with some party materials such as T-shirts, etc. As part of his contributions to making sure NDC won the Pusiga Parliamentary seat, he adopted to deliver two polling stations at his electoral area as support to the incumbent MP.

Musah Kalamed:

He is an entrepreneur, he is into pharmaceuticals, he has so many outlets across the country. He also owns a school.

Musah contested the Constituency Youth Organizer’s position twice and lost. He has also contested for an Assemblyman and lost.

Musah is the youngest among the other contestants. He has also contributed his quota to the party in both cash and kind.

Hajia Laadi Ayamba:

She is the incumbent MP for Pusiga Constituency. She went to Parliament in 2012, and subsequently won in 2016 and 2020.

She is currently fighting hard to go back to Parliament in 2024.

From what we have gathered, party members and especially delegates are kind of fed up with her leadership style. The larger majority in the area currently see her as a “boss” but not as a “leader”. They see her as someone who like issuing instructions and not ready to take suggestions from anyone. Information we gathered has it that the incumbent MP is not approachable.

We also gathered that since 1992, the gap between NDC and NPP is over 4000, and currently under the current MP Hajia Laadi, the NDC in Pusiga is battling with 63 gaps.

They also believe the current MP is not the type that can bring people together in terms of misunderstanding.

People of Pusiga, especially NDC members complained about empowerment, they claimed the current MP could not empower anyone in the Constituency that could stand on the party’s behalf in case of her absent.

The people complained of not having a car, to the extent they always go for the NPP party car anytime they need a car to convey their NDC party members to the hospital.

George B. Azungah:

He is a retired VRA/NEDCO officer. He is contesting the Parliamentary seat for the third time. He contested in 2011, and 2019 and now contesting for 2024. He is an I.T Expert.

According to what we have gathered, Mr. George is approachable and delegates confirmed giving him the opportunity, especially of his tolerance. They revealed, that Mr. George hardly has issues with people when he is offended. Whiles he was working with VRA, he was able to empower some people that could step in for him in terms of any activity.

In the 2020, election, Mr. George was one of the party’s Regional ICT Guru who was in charge of collation.

Our Prediction

We observed that delegates were not happy with the incumbent MP.

The MP has been in power for almost 12 years and yet she couldn’t provide the party a car, which has caused the party always going to NPP to borrow their party car

No empowerment for party members.

She is a ‘boss’ not a ‘leader’

They also claimed she is now trying to use material things to buy their conscience.

Note: No one can underrate the power of incumbency at the eve night.

From the views we gathered from those who matter in the Pusiga Constituency, Mr. George B. Azungah is likely to lead NDC to the promised land as the Pusiga Parliamentary Candidate ahead of the 2024.

For the Flagbearership, John Dramani Mahama will get over 79 percent ahead of his other contenders Dr. Kwabena Duffour, a former Minister of Finance and Mr. Kojo Bonsu, a former Mayor of Kumasi will share the rest of the votes.
