A group of young men, believed to be supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), took to the streets on Wednesday, January 8, storming the New Juaben South Municipal Assembly. Apexnewsgh reports
The men locked the offices of several government agencies, including the National Identification Authority, National Disaster Management Organisation, National Service Secretariat, and the National Health Insurance Authority.
The group’s actions didn’t stop there, as they later moved to the regional offices of these institutions, attempting to lock them down as well. Fortunately, no violence was reported during the incident, but staff members were left shaken and traumatized by the events.
The Koforidua Divisional Police Commander swiftly intervened, accompanied by a team of armed officers, including the Counter-Terrorism Unit. Their prompt response helped defuse the situation, restoring order and calm to the area.
While the group’s motives remain unclear, sources suggest that this incident may be linked to similar events in 2017, where politically affiliated individuals were targeted during a change in government. For now, staff have resumed their normal duties, and the situation remains under control.
