According to Ashie Moore, President John Dramani Mahama is committed to replacing all MMDCEs whose appointments were recently revoked as part of a broader restructuring effort to enhance local governance.
The revocation of appointments, which took effect immediately, was made in line with the Local Governance Act, 2016 (Act 936) as amended by the Local Governance (Amendment) Act, 2017 (Act 940). In the interim, Coordinating Directors of the respective Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs) will act as chief executives until new appointments are made.
Ashie Moore assured party supporters that the selection process is being handled meticulously to ensure the appointment of competent individuals. He called for patience and cooperation from NDC members as the process unfolds. “We are conducting a screening of nominations for prospective candidates this week, and if all goes well, we will have MMDCEs in place within the next 14 days,” he stated.
The appointment of new MMDCEs is expected to pave the way for the government to appoint new leadership at the local level, aligning with its vision for decentralization and development.
