Abraham Amaliba, Director of Conflict Resolution for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has expressed outrage over President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s failure to facilitate the clearance of Global Fund drugs stuck at the Tema Port. Apexnewsgh reports

Amaliba questioned the presence of a president in the country, citing the government’s “buffoonery” and “ridiculous” handling of the situation.

He alleged that the government has refused to clear the containers because there is no direct financial benefit, emphasizing that the government only acts when there is personal gain. Amaliba noted that the Global Fund donated the medical supplies free of charge, but the government has failed to clear them, putting lives at risk.

The Ministry of Health recently announced the release of GHC7.4 million to complement payment for third-party charges, with the expectation that all outstanding containers will be cleared by the end of June 2024.

However, Amaliba remains skeptical, citing the government’s track record of prioritizing personal interests over the well-being of citizens.

The delayed clearance of these life-saving commodities has raised concerns, as a significant portion is expected to expire by the first quarter of 2025 if not cleared immediately. The government’s inaction has sparked outrage, with many calling for urgent action to address this critical situation.
